I attended the "best week ever tweet up" in the East Village last night and it was quite the scene.
Twitterers hailed from far and wide, Pat
Kiernan from the
UWS,
bloggers from Brooklyn and even a busload of guys from
Easton, PA.
Other than harassing the "celebs" at the event I also took the time to do a little investigating into why people come to these things.
My findings:
- networking
- give aways
- something to do
- fan of the show
- just happened to be at the bar and wandered in (I personally went for all of the above- minus just wandering in).
Tweetups really get a bad rap. Everyone thinks it's a bunch of nerds who gather to talk about twitter. This really isn't the case at all. It's actually a new way to meet up with people who have similar interests in a relaxed casual atmosphere. Drinks + common interests + technology =
tweetup. See you at the next one!
